A good bottle brush is essential for cleaning inside bottles and teats thoroughly. A bottle drying rack keeps everything hygienic and organised as it air dries. Many parents also use a steam steriliser or microwave steriliser to kill bacteria, particularly in the early months. A dedicated brush set for teats and valves is also worth having for a thorough clean.

The World Health Organisation recommends sterilising all feeding equipment until your baby is at least 12 months old. After each use, wash bottles and teats in hot soapy water or the dishwasher, then sterilise using your preferred method. Once sterilised, equipment can be stored in the steriliser or a clean, sealed container until needed.

A drying rack specifically designed for baby bottles allows air circulation and keeps equipment off contaminated surfaces. Look for racks with enough pegs to hold bottles, teats, and accessories in one place. Designs like the iconic grass-style racks are popular because they are effective and easy to clean themselves. Always allow equipment to air dry fully before storing.

Many modern bottle brush sets include dishwasher-safe components, though always check the manufacturer's guidance. Teats and small valve parts are often best hand washed and sterilised rather than going through the dishwasher, which can degrade silicone over time. Replacing brush heads regularly ensures you are always cleaning with effective bristles.

Most drying racks can be washed in warm soapy water or placed in the dishwasher. Rinse and dry the rack itself regularly to prevent mould or bacteria build-up in crevices. Silicone and plastic racks tend to be the easiest to clean thoroughly. Some racks also come apart for a deeper clean, which is worth doing once a week.
