Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding is one of the most natural things in the world, but that doesn't always mean it's easy - especially in the early weeks. Having the right products and support can make a big difference to your breastfeeding experience and confidence. Our breastfeeding range includes nursing pillows, breast pumps, nipple creams, nursing bras, feeding covers, and more - everything to help you feed comfortably, whether at home or on the go.

The true essentials are a quality nursing bra for comfort and access, breast pads to manage leaks, and a good nipple cream to soothe and protect in the early weeks. A nursing pillow makes a significant difference to feeding comfort and posture. A breast pump (manual or electric) is valuable for building a milk supply, relieving engorgement, or pumping for bottle feeds. A feeding cover is optional but many mums appreciate the privacy when feeding in public.

Manual pumps are lighter, quieter, and more affordable, making them a good choice for occasional pumping or when you only need small amounts of expressed milk. Electric pumps are faster and less tiring for regular or exclusive pumping. Double electric pumps express both sides simultaneously, halving the time needed. Hospital-grade electric pumps are the most powerful option and are sometimes recommended for establishing supply in the early weeks. Consider how often you plan to pump before investing.

Lanolin-based nipple creams are a popular and well-regarded choice as they are safe for baby to ingest in small amounts and do not need to be wiped off before feeding. Look for products that are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and specifically formulated for breastfeeding. Natural options like coconut oil or expressed breast milk can also provide soothing relief. If soreness is severe or persistent, it's worth checking in with a lactation consultant as it may indicate a latch issue.

Breast pump parts that come into contact with milk should be washed in warm soapy water after each use and sterilised regularly, especially in the early months. Follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions for electric pumps as some parts are not dishwasher safe. Reusable breast pads should be washed after every use. Nursing bras can usually be machine washed on a gentle cycle - using a laundry bag helps protect the shape and fabric.

The Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) is a fantastic resource, offering a 24-hour breastfeeding helpline, local support groups, and a wealth of online information. Your midwife, child health nurse, or GP can also provide guidance and referrals. Lactation consultants (IBCLCs) offer specialist one-on-one support for more complex feeding issues. Many maternity hospitals also have dedicated breastfeeding support services you can access in the early weeks after birth.
